Deepti Patel MD, MSL at

“The MedRAC course was a wonderful resource for me when I was an aspiring MSL. The sessions were extremely relevant such as the clinical presentation session which helped me gain confidence and improve through important feedback, as well as the resume session which highlighted pertinent components to include in an industry-specific resume. All the speakers were incredibly knowledgeable and amenable to connecting with after. It was really useful meeting others in a similar position and having the shared camaraderie. One of my highlights was winning overall first place and being generously gifted several career books. The course was one of the resources that helped me in securing my first MSL role and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to do the same.

Kimberly Koehn, Ph.D. |  MedRAC@UNC Programming & Inviting Board (2020-2021)

Kimberly Koehn received her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Colorado State University in 2019. Her doctoral training was in natural product total synthesis where she worked on a cross-functional team to discover and characterize a novel enzyme. During her postdoctoral training, she worked as a medicinal chemist to collaboratively design analgesic drug candidates at UNC at Chapel Hill in the Center for Integrated Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. Because of Kimberly’s passion for drug development, she pursued a career in Regulatory Affairs and became involved in MedRAC@UNC.

During her time with MedRAC@UNC, Kimberly collaborated with the leadership team to facilitate professional development events and training programs for Ph.D. scientists with a career interest in Medical/Regulatory Affairs. She has since started her career in product development and regulatory strategy at Rho, Inc.

George Limen PharmD., ACCA. MSL at Novo Nordisk.

George was one of MedRAC@UNC’s Summer Series Certificate program participants and is currently working as a Medical Science Liason at Novo Nordisk specializing in obesity. Here is what he had to say: “I am glad to have “actively” participated in the #UNC #MedRAC Summer Series Program! By actively I mean being intentional! The program brought in the best speakers and experts. Connecting and engaging with these people provided more clarity and substance to my MSL pursuits. The benefits did not end with engaging with the speakers… sharing space with a cohort of like-minded hardworking people was an added value. The different activities including peer critique, resume, and letter of intent reviews provided space for me to let go of my vulnerabilities. We grow when we let go of our vulnerabilities. Importantly, the relationships I built through this program remain an asset throughout my professional life.”

Chip Norwood, PhD | MedRAC@UNC Co-chair | Technology & Logistics (2020-2021)

Chip received his Ph.D. degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Florida where he worked on the structural remodeling of complex indole alkaloids for the synthesis of libraries for drug discovery. He continued honing his medicinal chemistry and drug discovery skills at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Center for Integrated Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. While exploring alternative career paths away from the bench, he discovered the MSL and regulatory affairs roles. MedRAC@UNC helped Chip solidify his choice to leave the bench by connecting with other MSLs and regulatory professionals. Chip has since started a career in product development and regulatory strategy at Rho, Inc.

“I would recommend everyone in the club to heavily rely on networking/looking for introductory roles. I know J&J, Rho, and Cato have programs for those interested in an introductory role in regulatory affairs. For MSL, there are companies that produce slide presentations/content for MSLs, so getting a job for one of those companies would be a great way to become an MSL too. Good luck!”
